It’s the end of August, which means that it is time to start thinking about the Evergreen State Fair!
The Fair is a traditional end of summer highlight, providing hours of family fun and entertainment. It is a chance to see what the farm kids have been up to, with livestock and handicraft displays from 4H and FFA. For many, even more fun than the kid’s competition is the Open Class competitions.
The growing “do it yourself” ethic is showcased with competitors in fields from food preservation, baking, homemade beverages, general agriculture (who grew Western Washington’s biggest tomato this season?), decorative arts and sewing, floral arts, and draft horses. Along with the competitions are educational and heritage displays.
For most folks the real highlight of the Fair is the great entertainment it provides. There will be Auto Racing on a daily basis, from amateur and professional class drag racing, NASCAR, drift racing, motocross, the Washington Midget Racing Association and Import Drags. Somewhere in there, they will find time for a Demolition Derby as well!
© Copyright Big name music acts are a big part of the Fair every year, and this year the Evergreen State Fair will feature 70s and 80s supergroup Styx, country music superstar Rodney Atkins, along with popular artists Colbie Caillat, Demi Lovato, Gavin Degraw, and Jake Owen.
For a many folks, it just wouldn’t be a Fair without a Rodeo, and the Professional Western Rodeo Association cowboys will be putting on a terrific show with two bull riding sessions a night along with the High Valley Riders Drill Team.
The Midway will be filled with attractions from Butler Amusements, which include some of the Nation’s favorite rides, including Energy Storm, the Giant Slide, Vortex, 1001 Nachts, the Ring of Fire, Nitro, Haywire, YoYo, Gravitron, Zipper, SuperShot, Thunderbolt, and the Zillerator roller coaster. For the more gentle hearted, there will be the Wacky Worm, the Eagle 16 Ferris Wheel, the Looney Tooter Train, Tilt a Whirl, the Century Carousel, and the Tea Cups.

We will probably have one or two spas filled and operating during the Fair. Unfortunately, we will not be able to invite our friends to use them, as nice as that would be after a long day of walking around and seeing all there is to see at the Evergreen State Fair!
